"The Ride or Walk to Remember, Celebration of Family" is not a race. It is a chance for families, friends, and project supporters to gather together and meet others who are celebrating the life or lives of those in their families who have died and who remain very much a part of our lives everyday. We invite you and your family and friends to join us as we explore and experience the beautiful fall foliage of lamoille county as we remember our loved ones. Rain or shine. Warm or cool.
The SIMON Project is an organization who's mission is to provide practical outreach to those who need empathetic and loving support from those who have experienced similar pregnancy loss / miscarriage, stillbirth, SIDS, SUDI, suicide, or an accidental / medical death of a child, loved one, or friend.
All money raised will be used to support bereavement programs, materials, and outreach activities of The SIMON Project and its partner organizations in Vermont.
We welcome you to join us as individuals, families, or teams to tour the beautiful and vast areas of Lamoille County and celebrate the lives of those both alive and deceased. We chose to begin and end in the town of Eden - because Eden is the home of The SIMON Project and the location of Simon's family. We also choose to hold the "Ride or Walk to Remember, Celebration of Family" during the fall foliage to help remind us of the beauty of life and the cycles of change.
The "Ride or Walk to Remember, Celebration of Family" is a fund raising event. A minimum of $100.00 in pledges is required per participant the day of the event at registration, and needs to accompany your registration form. An additional $20.00 registration fee is also required per person - this will cover rider and walker supports, rest areas, food, entertainment and an event T-shirt. The registration fee can be mailed in along with a check, or you can register online using a credit card and Paypal's secure checkout.
Children under the age of 18 must have parental permission to participate and children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent on either the bike ride or the walk.
Bike helmets are required of all riders. We strongly suggest that you have your bike checked by an area bike shop to insure it is in good working condition before participating in the ride. Support vehicles will pick up anyone needing a ride along the route and deliver them to the next rest stop.
All participants are reminded to obey all traffic and pedestrian laws. Please ride single file and keep a safe distance from other riders. Please indicate by using hand signals when making any turns, or stopping and let people know when you are passing on the left or if there is a vehicle approaching from behind. Some areas of the ride route are heavily traveled by motorists while others areas are not. Some road conditions are rough and require you to slow down and be cautious. Please stay alert and safe at all times.
Registration begins at Eden Central School at 7:30 AM - Please check in at the tent area to check-in, drop off minimum donations / pledges of $100.00 in cash or checks, pick up event tee-shirt and turn in waiver and/or youth participation permission forms.
Volunteers - Please meet at the Eden Central school at 7 AM for our logistics meeting and event / route placement assignments.
